York is home to one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals, York Minster. York Minster, or The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter, has been around since the 7th century and it’s one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe.
 
If you’re visiting York, we’d highly suggest that you take a walk to York Minster. The cathedral sits in the heart of York so there’s plenty more to do and see in the surrounding area.

La Vecchia Scuola is a 4 minute walk away from York Minster and is the perfect place to eat if you enjoy hearty Italian food.
 
This restaurant sits within a 300-year-old building which has a very interesting background. Back in Roman times, a Roman fortress stood in the exact spot that La Vecchia Scuola now resides. Since then, a Lawyer for the Church of England and, a little later on, a Doctor both lived in this spot, with it becoming the College for Girls in 1908 until it closed in 1997.
 
La Vecchia Scuola has an enormous amount of dishes on offer, all of which sound delicious! They have 6 menus: Starter menu, pizza menu, pasta menu, main menu, lunch set menu and evening set menu. They pride themselves on being able to cater for everyone; from meat-eaters to vegetarians, vegans, and people who have allergies, intolerances and specific dietary requirements.

On their menu, you’ll find an array of pasta dishes and pizzas, as well as food from off the grill, fresh fish, salads and chef specials. Mannion & Co is a family-run business which has been operating for over 30 years. When Mannion & Co first opened, they started out as a greengrocers' supplying fresh local produce. Over time, the Mannion family restored the Tudor frontage and turned the greengrocers’ into find bistro dining and this is when the Mannion & Co Kitchen was born.

If you’re a fan of fish, seafood and expertly cooked meats, then Cote Brasserie is the place for you. On their menu you’ll find everything from olives and sourdough bread to crab, swordfish and duck.

Tapas is becoming a firm favourite in England, mainly due to its sharing nature, and Sotano have the tapas on lock. The tapas that can be found here is heavily influenced by Mediterranean dishes and, to go with these dishes, Sotano has carefully paired some classic cocktails to go alongside!
