Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms
6-8 St. Helen’s Square, York, YO1 8QP
Bettys was established in 1919 and is famous across the world, for its afternoon tea. Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms ensure that your afternoon tea will be a truly unique and traditional experience, with the interior being inspired by the gorgeously decorated Queen Mary ocean liner.
During World War II, Betty’s Bar was situated in the Oakroom, which was a popular bar among the servicemen. No one is entirely sure how this began, but the servicemen started to sign their names, with a diamond-ended pen, into a mirror. Sadly, during an air raid, the mirror became damaged, but parts of this mirror hang in the downstairs Oakroom, the basement cafe, for you to enjoy and remember our heroes.
For afternoon tea, you can choose from a traditional afternoon tea, pink champagne afternoon tea and a Yorkshire cream tea.
If someone in your party doesn’t fancy an afternoon tea, but wants to experience the history that Bettys has to offer, then they also provide salads, sandwiches and breakfast dishes, along with their house specials.
